WHZLY
I produce music under the name WHZLY [wheezly] and these are my 3 FREE Dynamic Strips that I use in every track I make!
- Basic Channel Strip - set on my default Audio Tracks (they are on 99% of my channel tracks) This channel strip is my one stop shop for tone shaping, compression, soft clipping, sound design and just basic filtering. I noticed I type in the same audio effects all the time so I just put the ones I use the most in a rack ready to go with some presets with Ableton's 11 macro feature and some simple knob to get the tone I want in seconds. (I use the 4 EQ Macros on every track in some degree to just shape the sound based off broad strokes and feel, while including another freeform EQ EIGHT if I want/need to make some crazy shapes. Along with it there is a MAGIC ONE KNOB Multiband Compression preset I made to round out a sound and then ending it with a Soft Clipper or Limiter option knob with the PUSH being the gain before either :D
- Basic Midi Instrument Strip (Serum as default instrument) - Every time I use the 'create midi track shortcut' this is what I have saved as my default. The midi track has a built in macro knob for octave switches so I can easily go between octaves instead of wasting time going into the midi clip and using the 'shift up/down' command. (It saves time!). It also helps if I'm browsing through Serum/Synth Presets and the Oscillator octaves are different between patches like +1, -2, +4, etc. After the instrument follows my Basic Channel Strip listed above.
- WHZLY SPACER RACK is my go to dynamic mixing tool that helps me make space in my tracks for the important focused elements. By using a parallel rack, where one chain is the "INPUT" (listening chain) which has a side chain enabled compressor where you select the instrument, bus, vocal, or anything you want to shine through in a cleaner way + a 16 band rack for all frequency ranges full of bandpass auto filters followed by an envelope follower which all corresponds to all 16 nodes in the other "Processing Chain" (This is where the dynamic eq magic happens), you create space in the tracks by using a technique called 'unmasking' or just simply dynamic side chain Eq'ing. (That was for sure a run on sentence..) Think of this as a Ableton Stock Trackspacer or Dynamic EQ PROQ3 from Fab Filter. At the end is a Mid/Side macro that controls how much of the sound you want to be in the middle or spread to the sides. Use the macro knobs to tell the "Input chain" what to listen to. If you use the Low Cut knob then the listing chain is not going to hear the lows from the input u selected, therefore the Eq will not respond to the low only after your selected low cut range (vice versa for hi cut or tilt). Use the "Gain" macro to increase the volume of the input so the eq reacts stronger to the input. This is a great tool to make space for elements occupying similar frequencies. It can be used as a dynamic unmasking tool, a side chain to kick/bass tool, or by using the "scale" parameter on the EQs you can reverse the % (-1% to -200%) to make it act like an upward compressor whenever your input is heard ( I use this for sound design sometimes too).
